i woke friday morning know which car i wanted to buy. oh, for those who didn't know, i've been car shopping.
once at work, i tried calling the dealership to ask what all I'd need to do if I planned on making a purchase that day. the lady who was showing me cars two days before was off that day, and the guy my dad knows there wasn't answering his phone. so my dad called and actually got through to him and was told that i could just go to the credit union, get a check for the amount he quoted me when we were looking at the car on wednesday, and then come by to fill out all the paperwork.
so, i decided to take the afternoon off work so i could take care of all this stuff. i went home for lunch only to find my power off. this was odd because my power is never off, even in storms, and it was a beautiful day.
after a while, i figured out that i had missed paying my utilities bill (it was buried under some other mail) and my services had been disconnected. so, i called them up and paid it over the phone, then asked about when it would be reconnected. the guy said *hopefully* between 2:00 and 4:00. he made it sound like they stopped reconnecting at 4:00, but i'm still not sure about that.
i left my house, fearing for all the poor food in my refrigerator, and headed to the credit union. the lady there told me, in a not very nice tone, that the worksheet i had with the car price on it wasn't enough. i needed to go get a "buyer's order" or something like that. so i headed out to the dealership to get that. they filled it out and was back out the door to go back to the credit union. my old car gave me one last reminder as to why i'm replacing it by refusing to start for a couple minutes. finally it did, but the oil light was flashing the whole return trip. which is odd, because i know it has oil in it.
got back to the credit union and a much nicer lady did all the paperwork for my loan. she finished it just as they closed. in fact, the door was locked behind me as i left.
i drove all the way back over to my parents' house so my dad could give me a ride to the dealership, and then proceeded to buy my new car!
it's a 2008 honda civic, atomic blue, leather interior, sunroof, heated seats...yeah, it's nice. :)

it's quite the stress relief to not have to worry about your car braking down or falling apart all the time.
i drove home to find that my power was, in fact, back on! phew!
last night i got to give 3 friends a ride in it to a concert here on campus. The Mates of State is the band we went to see. usually at this place there's a decent amount of people, but last night it was crazy. when we got there, the line to get in stretched waaaaay back further than i'd ever seen it. right as we finally got up to the door, the guy closed it and said for us all to wait.
he came out later and said they're waiting on the police officer who works there to come and tell them how many more people they can let in. finally he showed up and they started letting more people in.
we didn't get to be up near the stage, but it was still a good show. crazy hot though...too many people in a small space...
now...back at work...though, an hour late this morning because i overslept. apparently when the power was out on friday, my clock was able to keep the correct time, but the alarm setting was lost, so i didn't wake up until when i usually would be about to leave.
